City of Bochum: Electronic signature for library cards

31.01.2019

You can apply for a library card online at Bochum City Library, which has seven branches, using an electronic signature

The public library system of Bochum, a city with a population of 370,000, comprises the central library and six branches in Gerthe, Langendreer, Linden, Querenburg, Wattenscheid and Wiemelhausen. Since 2006, signotec’s electronic signature products have been used in all branches for applying for library cards. Since 2014, the signotec Sigma signature pad has been in use alongside the signoSign signature software, thereby ensuring compliance with ISO standards. Technically, the products have been seamlessly integrated into the existing library processes.

When applying for a library card, once the customer account has been created in the library management software, the application is generated as a PDF in the signature software and signed using the signature pad. The PDF containing the customer’s original signature is then clearly stored under the relevant customer number.

The signotec Sigma signature pad is ideally suited to this application thanks to its compact and robust design. The large sensor allows even sweeping signatures to be captured without reaching the sensor’s edges. The pad’s numerous RSA encryption mechanisms provide additional security.

Thanks to this approach, staff at the municipal library benefit from an efficient registration process as well as significant savings on paper and other material costs.
