DATEV: Law firms are moving towards digitalisation

01.04.2026

How law firms use digital processes to work more efficiently and seamlessly

Many workflows relating to correspondence within the tax consultancy sector are still carried out in the traditional way: creating documents electronically, printing them out, signing them, scanning them and filing them away. It seemed that these workflows were struggling to make the transition to digitalisation. In fact, however, the need for digitalisation has grown increasingly strong in this sector over recent years, so that there is now a clear desire for change. In particular, the ‘DIGISign’ signature software, developed in collaboration with DATEV Austria, makes the transition to a digital signature process much easier. DIGISign enables clients of tax consultancy firms to sign documents electronically – meaning these no longer need to be printed, scanned and filed. The PDF document to be signed is marked in DATEV DMS, signed on the pad and automatically archived for the client. Watch this video to find out exactly how electronic signing with DIGISign works and what benefits it offers law firms.

“Tax advisors are increasingly working digitally with their clients. Whether in communication, when transferring documents, or in connection with electronic signatures. Modern, digital solutions save the firm time and money, says Mr Brunmayr, authorised signatory and Head of Sales and Marketing at DATEV Austria. “With electronic signatures, tax consultancy firms are taking another important step into the digital world. Printing out and scanning documents is a thing of the past, Mr Brunmayr continues.

Firms are thus optimising their signature process, increasing their level of digitalisation and avoiding a digital-to-analogue media break. Furthermore, they are reinforcing a modern, digital and sustainability-focused image for the firm.

It is encouraging that some firms are already leading by example and sharing their positive experiences with their industry peers. In many cases, this is the first step towards engaging with existing and established technologies – and the enormous potential for savings – despite previous reservations. Once this potential has been recognised, the actual implementation within one’s own environment is merely the final small step.
